Court Docket Records for Owen County
Owen County has two courts. The Owen Circuit Court is led by Judge Kelsey R. Blair Hanson. The court hears a broad range of cases, including felony charges, civil lawsuits, and family law matters. The Owen Superior Court handles additional caseload that the circuit court cannot absorb on its own. Both courts sit in Spencer, the county seat, and both feed their records into the same Odyssey system.
A docket entry is a logged event in a case. It could be a new filing, a hearing date, a motion, or a court order. These entries build up over time to create the case's complete record. If a lawyer files something, it goes on the docket. When the judge makes a ruling, that goes on the docket too. The result is a clear chronological picture of everything that has happened in the case. Indiana Administrative Rule 9 controls what portions of court records can be shared with the public and what must be kept confidential.

Accessing Owen County Docket Entries
Indiana's Access to Public Records Act (IC 5-14-3) makes most court docket records open to the public. You do not have to explain why you want the records. The clerk is required to provide them within a reasonable time. Exceptions exist for sealed cases, juvenile records protected under IC 31-39-2, and expunged records under IC 35-38-9. Everything else is fair game.
If a case has been expunged, it will not show up in any search. The record effectively ceases to exist from a public standpoint. The clerk can confirm that an expungement has occurred but cannot share the details of what was sealed. This applies equally to online and in-person requests.
